People come here from searches...

Mostly for Phillipe Dubuc's one off collection at Simons last fall, peacock tights, pictures of tattoos, pictures of the sacred heart of Mary, and how to make a cummerbund.

1. That collection was a one off, it was super wonderful at that price point, and I wore my sweater into the ground.

2. Peacock tights, they're the best I've seen so far.

3. Tattoo pictures. well they're here.

4. Same I guess.

5. Cummerbunds are easy. your main pattern piece is a rectangle. make a second rectangle by slicing a copy of the first horizontally, spread to make pleats. notch the pleats. optional, triangles for the sides. add a belt like piece to the back, done.

6. oh and people also want to see lycra body suits. this disturbs me. I think it's a fashion trend to watch out for, nothing more.

anyway hi.

This is a personal blog about liking stuff, and making stuff, and having fun. occasionally there is a gratuitous pigeon post.

Another year is approaching

I think I need a new wardrobe.

I'm at a loss as to what that wardrobe would look like, or how I can have one in 10 days.

But I need a new wardrobe.

I want that t-shirt by Apiary

This is a classic example of my style. Big knee length skirt (black), t-shirt, button up as cardigan or cardigan as cardigan. Flat sneakers. Red Lipstick. Glasses.

I'm hoping it comes off as charming.

New makeup!!!

I have a bit of a makeup problem.

I will spend a really large portion of my disposable income on makeup, and then only wear it once or twice a week. This past year that hasn't been a problem because I haven't really had any disposable income (YSL gloss pur in black was NOT a discretionary purchase), however with school being over for the session a couple extra dollars fell into my hands.

I purchased Maybelline intense XXL mascara. Big disappointment. I've been used to using Rimmel's extreme definition which gives me what I like to call Drag Queen lashes, and the maybelline just isn't as intense at all. I'll probably replace it by the end of the week.

Then I went to the MAC store and went nuts. I replaced my mineralize skinfinish natural which I had recently run out of, and picked up two new things. An eyeshadow in deep deep deep blue (Contrast) and a super nude lipstick (Vanity's Child).

(also worn for shoot, black eyeshadow from annabelle along lid and in crease, eyeshadow from Rimmel in Dusk (dark brown) on brow, Blush from Rimmel in Berry.)

I think the challenge in wearing this out will be balancing my face so I don't lok horsey. maybe more blush????

-Love a happy happy sarah in makeup heaven.

making stuff

the black dress is going over the black mesh. the black mesh is supposed to keep the black silk up. I am worried.

I think...

it should be ok to drift.

I'm making a jacket.

In order to do so I need to make a pattern and then test it. Each piece has to match with it's neighbor, and then the whole thing also has to have an over all fit to both the size you want and the proportions. I had previously tested the collar (and changed it, I need to make a couple more changes to it before I cut in real material.) I tried it on myself, however the real test will be at school when I put it on the mannequin.

mildly freaky look-a-like syndrome

so for halloween I dress up like rockstars I resemble. This is a) easy b) tricky because there are really only two.

Annie Lennox

I really don't need to do anything to look like her. But wearing the same clothes, hair and makeup certainly do help things out.

David Bowie

except to really look the same I would have to drop every ounce of fat on my body. and tense all my muscles all the time. In other words I would need a long standing coke habit.

went to the zine fair.

felt really guilty that I didn't have a table.

felt disappointed that the little hand made mini books were either all photocopies or kind of expensive.

I take great pleasure in cheap art.

cheap and accessible.

something that someone else hands have touched.

anyway I'm a little sad, time for more coffee.

I can't lose it this time.

I need to grab it by the tail and let it pull me.

I need to work hard enough to not let go.

I can't wait on an idea until it dies.

oh and there needs to be an update of my etsy store, because people keep buying stuff...

Personal project

I'm going to make a collection for myself. These images (and some in my head) are my inspiration.

I'm going to try and document the whole process, there would be more stuff on here about personal projects, but a lot of them are presents... and I don't want to ruin the surprises.

oh this is the first item... more to follow.

(oh and Ish updated his blog for me it's all super pretty.)

Sitting here thinking

so I'm sitting here this morning, drinking coffee and trying to design a pretty little personal collection. I'm looking at the designers who showed really strong collections for ss09, and just getting ideas/sketching details. And I get to this dress (well this whole collection).

I've been a fan of Oliver Theyskens for years now. Since he's taken over at Nina Ricci he's had the funds and artistic freedom to put out collections that we always new he could do. But holy fuck, this dress. it's insane. Please note that it's based on a belle epoque thingy, but YOU CAN SEE THROUGH IT. which basically means it was put together with magic. MAGIC.

Dear Dries Van Noten...

I love you, I love your work, I could wear this collection every day and never be unhappy.

Casting call photos are up from mid-august...

and I look like a vampire. ANYWAY, I guess there's some sort of voting thing. If you feel committed you can click here to vote, but I think it requires signing up, or some such nonsense. But the link also brings you through to where other people have their pretty mugs all comic booked, or something.

happy accident

I'm spending the morning drafting workshop techs for my couture collection and I was just laying out the lines of where I'm going to put ruffles, and this happened. I'm tempted to just leave this as lines of beading, and skip the ruffles altogether.

more lycra body suits

From Jil Sander

I'm still working on that etheric project. I have three major illustrations to complete, this is the first one. Not that it's complete, but this is the first illustration. I painted it with gauche on mayfair, and I'm slowly cleaning it up/making it pretty in photoshop.

At the same time I have a client for Halloween. He wants to look like Trent Reznor from the Perfect Drug video.

I'm not going for perfect replication, so the fabrics aren't velvets. But I think the effect will be good. The green satin is to be used for the frock coat, and the brocade for a vest/waist coat. As I have updates I will post them.

-S happy in project land.
