Casting call photos are up from mid-august...

and I look like a vampire. ANYWAY, I guess there's some sort of voting thing. If you feel committed you can click here to vote, but I think it requires signing up, or some such nonsense. But the link also brings you through to where other people have their pretty mugs all comic booked, or something.

happy accident

I'm spending the morning drafting workshop techs for my couture collection and I was just laying out the lines of where I'm going to put ruffles, and this happened. I'm tempted to just leave this as lines of beading, and skip the ruffles altogether.

I'm still working on that etheric project. I have three major illustrations to complete, this is the first one. Not that it's complete, but this is the first illustration. I painted it with gauche on mayfair, and I'm slowly cleaning it up/making it pretty in photoshop.

At the same time I have a client for Halloween. He wants to look like Trent Reznor from the Perfect Drug video.

I'm not going for perfect replication, so the fabrics aren't velvets. But I think the effect will be good. The green satin is to be used for the frock coat, and the brocade for a vest/waist coat. As I have updates I will post them.

-S happy in project land.

I'm dreaming of my future.

and it feels good.

There's this desire to teach, and share, and a desire to create and design things that are not just beautiful, but relevant. I think sometimes fashion gets trivialized as being nothing but a way for the rich to act rich. To be luxury for the sake of showing off. That gets my back up.

The danger in trying to be original

For my creativity project I've come up with 20 possible designs, 10 of which I want to develop further. Fashion week is striking those down faster than I can come up with them.

Smocking with beading on the points?

Ralph Lauren did that.

Full body white lycra body suit with sheer over dress?

Threeasfour did that just fine.

Not that my designs would be the same, but they would be similar. It's cool that this happens, it means the world still works. People should come to conclusions at similar times, it shows the world is ready for it . Or that there is a need for it greater than one person. But it's annoying when you're supposed to be doing a really original project.

On Beauty

It's where you find it.

It's not the next big thing.

It's not always pretty.

It may or may not be worth searching for, but it's all I have.

A new obsession every week

The theremin.

This isn't really a new obsession, but youtube affords a new look on this amazing instrument.

It also fits into my current research theme (the aether), so it's allowed.
