work in progress

saturday morning and photoshop.

Now if only it would get a little warmer in here.

Oh and the above was the first muslin for the sample below. This is eventually going to be pretty much all in silk, and all white. So far I'm feeling really good about this project.

Slowly processing pictures

this is actually up on etsy, and has been for a couple weeks. I just finally got a picture of it on a mannequin.

as usual my etsy.

And more turn of that other century, adventurer, explorer, british ne'er do well action.

this time from AnnDemeulemeester. I'm finding it strage, and totally wicked, that this homage to late victorian/edwardian menswear is so prevalent in the collections. The other major trends of note would be belt closers on jackets (or no closures at all), man skirts/kilts/skorts, references to corsetry, reversible jackets, alternately slouchy and straight as a pin pants, giant hand knitted sweaters, jackets with layers and flaps, and yeah that seems like a pretty good list.

And Mr Yamamoto always makes me happy. Sorry.

Newest Project

I'm making a coat for a dear friend. This is the first sketch, pending approval of the client/friend/fire eating maniac.

fall shows are going on (or just finished), anyway it's edwardian, it's steampunky, it's loose, large and adventurous. And it may inspire a new haircut.

Um... this is a gorgeous example of what styling and the right model can do to get your idea across.

I'm going to steal this look. Or find someone with money and no taste to dress up!

Edwardian bullet proof vests. Amazing.

(the above is all Alexander Mcqueen)

(all raf simons, Edwardian crazy arms. Belle Epoque nutty ness in what looks a lot like neoprene. I want.)

(All Number (N)ine; I want to be a traveler on that journey. Also man skirts.)

um. yeah.

this is not the geoffrey beene I think of when he's brought up in trend talks. I think 60's american sportswear with a london mod edge. These pictures span three decades. the top two are form the 90's and seem to be very much related to clubwear that was coming out of london at the time, the lower two are 70's, also seem very influenced by london. Also super fucking beautiful.

I followed a lead from a byline on a photograph, and am I ever glad.

(photos taken from the beene website).

Graphic use of type

oh hi, not a graphic designer. BUT I do have to do this sort of thing for school, and as it takes a lot of time I'm getting it done in advance. This is an attempt at a graphic use of text, plus some colourful blob elements that I'm think of using as part of a wordmark/logo for this project.

H&M dress photo for lucia

End of Print Run

It has been a year since I produced the second edition of the (anti) Fascist Colouring Book, and they are now SOLD OUT. I have a couple of the covers left, so we'll see if some paper wallets are a possibility.

But I have to say that my first zine/mini book was a lot of fun, and way more popular than I would have ever expected.

thanks again.

Cover try

Friday, January 02, 2009

oh hello new year.

New Year, new school semester, new collection to plan (actually I'm kind of planning 2 collections...)

The major collection is for Spring/Summer '10. I'm not giving sneak peeks just yet, but I am going to start showing off the back end work. The image research and my written justifications.

I'm borrowing heavily from William Gibson's short story The Gernsback Continuum for ideas and a sense of mood.

"We live with the ghosts of the the futures that never were. We document our own future, our own Continuum, with every breath. Taking, and leaving, the pieces of the past that suit us and forgetting what should have been, and may still be.
What if we were to skip to their Continuum.
What if we we already have. "

I'm going way more conceptual than I usually do. I'm hoping for good things.

finished projects

messy rooms and action shots.
