More new stuff.
Also, I've been working on getting consistent lighting in the product shots. Tricky when you light your photos with a desk lamp.

I see a button up shirt thing going on here.
They cover up the tattoos nicely, so that's usually why I wear them to work. That and they're pretty. Pretty is good.
But really I need something more, I'm finding myself stuck in a rut. It's a rut with vintage hermes ties and linen trousers, but it's a rut none-the-less.

It's a challenge! A dare! A revolution!
Going Biz-Caz-ish in an office full of jeans and flip flops. I showed up day one as Katherine Hepburn going golfing, today was a little more me. Tomorrow is currently a mystery.
The outfit consists of a Thrifted tux shirt, a handmade sweater skirt, and some strange handmade leggings, which are available on etsy.

Which means adventures in business casual!
Actually it means adventures in figuring out if it's a tattoo/face metal appropriate office and going full ahead biz caz while everyone runs around in jeans. I'm looking forward to having to push myself to think Office Wear, as usually the only creative dressing I do is for going out.
Anyway Day 1 is totally Katherine Hepburn goes golfing.
Shirt is thirfted and I shortened the sleeves
Pants are self made in Linen
and Shoes are amazing. White perforated leather grandpa shoes.

Get ready for some serious rogue voguing tonight at Woof Bar in the Village.

There's a Victorian (and other things) pic nic at the end of the month, and I'm thinking about doing some historical costuming. Because the event is in part a creative anachronism event (steam punky stuff), the design isn't strictly historical.

But I still managed to get some illustration work booked and done!
Fabulous Peacock for a Fabulous party I'm performing at this summer. I guess it's about time to get all the props and costumes together for that piece... more details will be announced as I know them.

and what's kind of cool is that I made all those clothes. All of em. Me. Except for the shoes. Didn't make those.
A couple of them are available on etsy: The Black Lace Look Legging (featured in all three outfits)
The leather look vest
and The Bright Summer Tank
And... There are more paper wallets up. They're all in one place. They're only 3$ and everyone is unique and made by hand.

I've started writing my thank you notes to clients on this beautiful 1920's Underwood typewriter called Bitty. Bitty is currently on loan from a good friend, and will probably be replaced by something a lot less beautiful once it goes home.

I love this colour combo, it reminds me of the pictures of atomic blasts. That insane false sunrise. These are a new style and I need to get some good picture action before I put them up on etsy.
But they will show up there eventually.

As well the old kind of black lace leggings sold out, and have been replaced with this really crazy fabric. It looks like a cubist garden on your legs. Totally cool.

I think it might be true that we all have them. A touch point in popular or personal culture that is a beacon that guides us through the dark times of our closets. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has uttered the desperate words "What would Madonna do?". The issue with airing them publicly (and I am so about to air them publicly), is that they then become available to be judged. If Nina Garcia got all huffy at me on Project Runway and asked me to explain how my style icons could ever wear that latex bikini and space tunic I would have to explain. My style icons are not glamorous socialites. Not usually anyway. I don't believe that high fashion is the be all and end all of looking good.
On to the Lexicon of my Fashion Icons.
The First- Cyndi Lauper
I was exposed to the greatness of Cyndi Lauper at a very young age. I remember being dressed up in a party dress, putting coloured hair spray in my pouffed up hair and jumping around on my mom's bed to Girls Just Want to Have Fun, I may have been 4.
I was excited be her sense of acceptable rebellion. She was in party dresses and makeup. She was singing pop songs. But she wasn't doing it for you, she was doing it as a form of personal expression and for fun. Over time her spirit has carried me through to a strong understanding of myself and how I prefer to dress. Also a pioneer of showing her underpants in non-sexy fashion.
The Next One- Madonna
Although not always a driving force in the life of my wardrobe one cannot ignore the power of Madonna.
She's more a like a check and balance, than an inspiration. In moments where I need to be the center of attention in the most broken down glamorous way, I think of Madonna. I'm not saying it works, I'm just saying it happens.
Teen Teen Teen- Courtney Love
This one is special, as Mz Love totally owns one of my accessories. A style icon who has at least in a little way gave a nod back in my direction? Worth mentioning.
I tried my best as a 14 year old to look like her, FAILED. However knowing the power of a baby doll dress and a boyfriend sweater has never been a bad thing.
